Habitats
Savannah, bushveld, acacia forest, natural wetlands, koppies, riverine areas, rocky outcrops and dams create a varied environment across the property.
Game
Kudu, hippo, waterbuck, gemsbok, wildebeest, blesbuck, duiker, eland, impala, red hartebeest, springbuck, steenbuck, zebra and more are part of the Letamo wildlife character.
Birdlife
Birdlife is abundant, including owls, hawks, eagles, fish eagles, cormorants, geese, ducks, kingfishers and bee-eaters.
Our story
A place that has grown around its landscape.
Letamo was established in 1998, with residential development following in the early 2000s.
From the outset, the farm developed around an unusual idea: creating homes within an existing natural setting while retaining the character, space and wildlife that made the area special in the first place.
Over the years the surrounding region has changed considerably, but Letamo has retained the qualities that matter most — open land, wildlife, quiet roads and a strong connection to the Cradle.
Today it is both a place to live and a landscape shared by residents, wildlife and the wider ecosystem around it.
Living in the Cradle

Letamo forms part of the wider Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, one of South Africa’s most distinctive natural and cultural landscapes.
Beyond the farm are heritage sites, nature reserves, cycling routes, country restaurants and outdoor destinations spread throughout the Cradle. Rather than trying to catalogue everything nearby, we prefer to point visitors towards current, authoritative information about the area.
